Person of Interest

By: Shellie Benson

Behind Jennifer Aniston’s Hairdo: Sarah Elizabeth Hart.

Hometown: Richmond, Va.
Occupation: Freelance hairstylist
Star stylist: She worked for Chris McMillan, who styles Jennifer Aniston’s hair. She also styled the coifs of Cameron Diaz, Chris Kattan, Mandy Moore and others.
Her specialty: Color
Style consultation: "I start by asking new clients about their maintenance and daily regime. Rather than putting the runway hair on the person—that person has to be runway first."
Coast to coast: After leaving college, she went straight to Beverly Hills and was hired at Tova Salon by a fellow Virginian. She also worked in New York for a few years before moving to Naples.
Styling Jennifer: "She was very gracious and less affected than most. She is less willing to experiment [with her hairstyle]. Chris describes her as having a lot of face. She doesn’t photograph that well unless she has hair that [covers the sides of her face]."
Reality ready: She styled hair for the television makeover show The Swan, and also provided grooming for the next season of American Idol when auditions were held in Miami.
Makeover mania: On The Swan, one woman cried when Hart was told to give her bangs. "I thought, wow, you’ve had a forehead lift, your eyes done, a chin implant, but these bangs, which will grow back, are conjuring this much emotion."
Celebs versus the rest of us: "Celebrities have to maintain their hairstyle every 10 days. Their color is going to go two weeks, maximum, without being touched up. This is not real life."
Superstar price tag: "Here’s the deal: Celebrities do not pay for their hair. They don’t even carry cash, and they always want free shampoo."
