MUSEUMS & GALLERIES
Alliance for the Arts. Hanging by a Thread, an exhibit of fiber artwork in two- and three-dimensional pieces, is on display through April 4. 939-2787.

Bob Rauschenberg Gallery. New Century New Painting: Recent Acquisitions from the Martin Z. Margulies Collection is on display through April 5. 489-9313.

Naples Museum of Art. A selection of works from Olga Hirshhorn’s collection, The Mouse House, continues through April 30. Pablo Picasso: Preoccupations and Passions and Jerome Tupa’s Painting the Pilgrimage: From Paris to Compostela are on display until May 18. Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center. Illuminations, an exhibit by the Society of Layerists in Multimedia Art, opens April 4 at 7 p.m. as part of the third annual Florida Arts Festival. 337-1933.

Southwest Florida Craft Guild. The group’s season ends with The Exhibit of Excellence at BIG Arts’ Philips Gallery on Sanibel, April 5–26. Opening reception, April 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. 282-2238.

Space 39. D3doubledogdare, an exhibit by doctor/artist Dr. Warren J. Scherer that uses the imagery of scientific research to examine aspects of society, opens with a reception April 19 from

Sunshine Galleries. Artist Greg Biolchini presents a portrait technique demonstration, April 20 at 2 p.m. 481-2081.

Sweet Art Gallery. A live drawing and painting exhibit and an artist reception for The Bold and the Beautiful is April 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. Brunch in the Park, featuring paintings from The Bold and the Beautiful is April 6 from noon to 3 p.m. Fifty-six prominent and emerging artists present and sell their original works of art at the fourth annual Salon de Garage, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 597-2110.

The von Liebig Art Center. Curiouser and Curiouser: What a Wonder Is This World!, a traveling retrospective exhibition, runs to April 27 in the Frederick O. Watson Gallery. Canadian Brass. The group performs a repertoire ranging from Bach to the Beatles, April 8 at 8 p.m. at the Phil. 597-1900.

Chamber Music Society of Southwest Florida. The ensemble performs How Slow the Wind, based on two Emily Dickinson poems, April 28 at the Alliance for the Arts’ Foulds Theatre. 481-4849.

Martina McBride. The country music superstar brings her "Waking up Laughing" tour to Germain Arena in Estero, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. 334-3309.

Marvin Hamlisch. This musical legend has won Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, a Tony, Golden Globes and the Pulitzer Prize. He plays at the Phil April 7 at 8 p.m. 597-1900.

The Met Opera Live in HD. The Florida Rep partners with the Met to bring live simulcasts and encore performances to Regal Cinema in the Bell Tower Shops. Puccini’s La Boheme is showing April 5 at 1:30 p.m., and Donzetti’s La Fille du Regiment is April 26 at 1:30 p.m. (800) 638-6737.

Southwest Florida Symphony. THEATER & SHOWS
100 Years of Broadway. A musical revue of Broadway’s most celebrated shows is April 9 at 8 p.m. at the Phil. 597-1900.

Anything Goes. The Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre brings a boatload of colorful characters, including tap-dancing sailors and chorus girls, to the stage through April 5. 278-4422.

Bermuda Avenue Triangle. The tale of two widows at a Las Vegas retirement condo who both fall for the same charming swindler, April 22 at 8 p.m. at the Phil. 597-1900.

Blast! This combination of live music and theatre won both an Emmy and a Tony Award in 2001. April 15–20 at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. 481-4849.
 
Bowzer’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party. Jon "Bowzer" Bauman, the former star of Sha Na Na, brings his celebrated all-star performance to the Phil, April 15 at 8 p.m. 597-1900.

Breaking Legs. If The Sopranos was a theatrical comedy, this would be it. The Florida Rep presents this murderously funny play through April 20. 332-4488.

Cabaret. The love story of a young novelist and an eccentric singer in pre-war Germany. April 10 to May 31 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. 278-4422.

Come Blow Your Horn. Neil Simon’s first play about two brothers struggling to find their true selves after their father disowns them. April 4–13 at the Cultural Center Theater in Port Charlotte. (941) 255-1022.

Do Jump! The innovative troupe blends theater, dance, acrobatics and live music, April 13 at 8 p.m. at the Phil. 597-1900.

Etc. This series of staged play readings from the Naples Players continues with three short plays themed April Fools, April 6 in the Tobye Studio at Sugden Community Theatre. 263-7990.

Fiddler on the Roof. The popular musical about a Russian man and his life is at the Sugden Community Theatre through April 5. 263-7990.

Funny Money. When an accountant finds a briefcase filled with money, he tries to convince his wife to move to Barcelona and start a new life. This farce by Ray Cooney is at the Schoolhouse Theater on Sanibel April 3 to May 3. 472-6862.

Humble Boy. A dramatic comedy that won the London Critics’ Circle’s "Best New Play" award, through April 19 in the Tobye Studio of Sugden Community Theatre. 263-7990.

In the Mood. A 1940s musical revue featuring the swing, jazz and brass music of the era, April 23 at 8 p.m. at the Phil. 597-1900.

Jesus Christ Superstar. Ted Neeley, who starred in the movie version of the production, performs in the title role, April 1 to 5 at the Phil. 597-1900.

Lend Me a Tenor. When a heavily tranquilized tenor leaves the performance to his assistant, chaos ensues both on and off the stage. All this month at the Off Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. 278-4422.
