Wallflower tendencies: "I definitely have a social anxiety disorder. It was compounded when he became mayor. To this day, I still get butterflies sometimes. When your personality is not conducive to public displays or public exposure, it’s difficult."
The A-List: "I’ve been afforded the opportunity to have dinner with New York Gov. [George] Pataki and his wife, Libby. I’ve met Jeb Bush and President Bush and movie stars. I’m not star-struck."
Family: Two daughters from her previous marriage—Stephanie, who died in 1994, and Kimberly; three children from Bill’s previous marriage—Jeff, Sheryl and Lisa; eight grandchildren; and a bulldog.
Volunteer activities: Past president of Shelter for Abused Women, former board member for American Cancer Society; tutored children and fundraiser for The Fun Time Early Learning Academy, supporter of Children’s Museum of Naples and The Wishing Well Foundation.
Family tragedy: Stephanie was killed in a car accident at age 20. The local parent support group, Compassionate Friends, and Adirondack Bereaved Parents, near their summer home in Lake Placid, N.Y., helped to bring Chris out of her depression. She also helped to raise money, assemble and donate more than 3,000 Angel Dolls to local law enforcement agencies and shelters for children in need. "They were my stepping stones to deal with my grief."
Naples style:
"I’m Catholic. We wore uniforms in school. I was a dental assistant and then a
surgical dental assistant—more uniforms. I had no fashion sense. Now, I’m
comfortable. I can mix and match with the best of them."
